Renewable UK told that in order to ensure that UK remains at the cutting edge of the green energy industry, government need to invest £150 million in engineering jobs.

The chief executive of Renewable UK, Maria McCaffery talking at the group's annual tidal and wave power conference, commented that although it is a lot of money to call for when many areas of public expenditure are expected to be cut, it would be worth it. She stated:

"If the UK is really serious about leading the world in tidal energy we will have to invest to achieve it,"

This follows Scottish Power owner Iberdrola created 200 engineering jobs by announcing it will base its global headquarters for offshore wind development in Glasgow. Moreover, the company looks announcing a major offshore wind farm engineering job in 2012, contributing to current plans to construct 10,000 megawatts of offshore wind capacity around the coast of the UK.
